Job summary

Byers K9 Services | BKS Security is seeking dependable individuals for the role of K9 Security Patrol Handler. This position combines traditional security tasks with the deployment, care, and ongoing training of a company-owned working K9.

Handers perform visible patrols, report writing, and client property protection, while maintaining high professionalism and physical readiness. This is a working K9 role requiring academy training and ongoing K9 proficiency.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Have reliable transportation.
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Successfully complete all required background screening.
• Meet any state or local licensing requirements applicable to the assignment.
• Have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Be capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Be physically capable of controlling a working K9 (German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd or similar).
• Be comfortable working independently with limited supervision.
• Possess strong communication and observational skills.
• Be capable of writing clear and accurate reports.
• Have a working smartphone and ability to use company-required applications.
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine and randomized foot patrols throughout assigned client properties.
• Maintain a highly visible security and K9 presence to deter theft, trespassing, vandalism, and other criminal activity.
• Inspect buildings, construction areas, gates, fencing, vehicles, equipment, and other designated areas.
• Identify suspicious persons, vehicles, activities, safety hazards, and security concerns.
• Deploy the K9 during security patrols as authorized by company policy and client requirements.
• Maintain proficiency in obedience, control, environmental exposure, patrol techniques, and other assigned disciplines.
• Complete accurate and detailed daily activity reports, patrol documentation, incident reports, and other required records.
• Properly operate company-issued radios, body-worn cameras, mobile applications, and security equipment.
• Monitor the K9 for injury, illness, behavioral changes, or other concerns and report them.
• Transport the K9 safely using an approved vehicle and secured K9 crate or containment system.
• Ongoing home environment considerations for housing a K9 when authorized.
