Job summary

Dorle-Controls LLC in Mount Vernon, WA seeks a Software Calibration Engineer to actively participate in calibration, verification, release, and implementation of software for vehicle control system software. You will test in-vehicle, develop test plans, and report defects, collaborating with Control, Software, and Validation teams.

Travel up to 10% and ability to lift 25 lbs are required. Strong analytical skills and self-direction are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • BS in appropriate technical field.
  • CDL or ability to obtain license.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and powertrain management systems and performance.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols: J1939, UDS, XCP, Ethernet, CAN-bus, LIN-bus.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication of technical findings to stakeholders.
  • Self-directed with excellent analysis and engineering judgment.
  • Organized with workload management and adaptability to shifting demands.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs and enter/exit truck cabins repeatedly.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the calibration, verification, release, and implementation of software
  • Uses engineering principles to calibrate and optimize vehicle performance via in-vehicle testing

  • Supports calibration and release of running change software
  • Contributes to calibration plans including timing, quality, and budget
  • Translates customer requirements into calibration data and configurations
  • Collaborates with Control, Software, and Validation teams on testing and defect resolution
  • Contributes to on-time software releases and maintains calibration quality standards
  • Keeps current on software functionality and product requirements
  • Identifies opportunities to improve calibration and testing methods
  • Maintains positive relationships with other groups and divisions

Summary of Job
  • Actively participates in the calibration, verification, release, and implementation of software
  • Uses engineering principles and experience to integrate, calibrate, and optimize vehicle performance functionality via in-vehicle testing of vehicle control system software
  • Develops and executes test plans for requirements verification and reports any discovered defects
  • Provides technical feedback on proposed product changes
  • Provides support to the running business group in the calibration, verification, and release of running change software releases
  • Provides relevant input to the development, communication, and management of vehicle calibration plans, including timing, quality, and budget
  • Translates customer requirements into software calibration data and configurations for the organization
  • Collaborates with and provides support to the Control, Software, and Validation Teams with testing, root cause analysis, and defect resolution
  • Contributes to on-time software releases and maintains calibration quality standards
  • Stays current on software functionality and product requirements for their assigned functions
  • Identifies opportunities or provides input for new initiatives to improve calibration and testing methods for higher efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintains a positive working relationships with other groups and PACCAR divisions
Required Qualifications
  • BS in appropriate technical field
  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability and desire to obtain
  • Knowledge of vehicle and powertrain management systems and performance
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols: J1939, UDS, XCP, Ethernet, CAN-bus, LIN-bus
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and engineering judgment required
  • Organized and disciplined with ability to manage personal workload and a willingness and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs & enter/exit truck cabins repeatedly
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
Desired Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience with vehicle development, integration, or testing
  • MS/MEng in technical field
  • Experience with vehicle data acquisition systems and test equipment (e.g. ATI Vision, Vector CANape).
  • Knowledge of diesel and electric powertrains on Class 5-8 vehicle applications
  • Proficiency in using a programming or scripting language (e.g. Python, C++, or MATLAB) for developing testing and data analysis scripts
  • Experience using software emulation tools to conduct testing
  • Familiary with Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and/or SOTIF (ISO 21448)
  • ISTQB Foundation Level knowledge or certification
