Job summary

New Haven Public Schools seeks a paraeducator to assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing classroom that supports each child's emotional, physical, and intellectual development.

You will work with the teacher on plans, prepare materials, attend meetings and help ensure inclusion of diverse backgrounds. The position reports to the Principal/Supervisor/Director and follows the Local 3429 contract.

Qualifications

• Must have Associate Degree or 60 college credits or pass ParaPro Assessment.
• Demonstrates the ability to support classroom learning and student development.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate classroom.
• Collaborates with the teacher on plans and curriculum activities.
• Prepares and maintains classroom materials and supplies.
• Attends staff meetings and school activities as required.
• Observes student needs and helps establish individual goals for each child.
• Supports the classroom to respect diverse backgrounds, languages, and learning styles.
• Plans and documents curriculum activities across physical, emotional, cognitive and social development.
• Supports students’ self-concept and positive classroom atmosphere.
• Participates in parent meetings and encourages parent involvement.
• Provides for students' physical needs, including diapering.
