Job summary

Helix Community Schools seeks a compassionate School Counselor (K–8) to support students academically and emotionally. The role involves individual, small-group, and classroom counseling, plus collaboration with families, teachers, and community resources to promote student success.

The position requires a CACREP-accredited counseling graduate degree, LA K–12 licensure with counselor endorsement or eligibility, practicum/internship completion, Praxis passing, and ongoing crisis response training.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in counseling from a CACREP-accredited program is required.
• Louisiana Ancillary School Counselor (K–12) certificate or valid teaching certificate with K–12 counselor add-on is required or eligible.
• Completion of required counseling practicum and internship is required.
• Passing score on the Praxis School Counselor examination is required.
• Current training in suicide prevention, crisis response, and mandatory reporting is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group counseling to students.
• Deliver classroom lessons on social-emotional skills, conflict resolution, and study skills.
• Support students with academic, behavioral, social, or emotional concerns.
• Respond to student crises and coordinate additional services as needed.
• Monitor attendance, academics, and behavior to identify students needing support.
• Assist 8th-grade students with IGPs and high school pathway planning.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, administrators, and community partners.
• Participate in SBLC, RTI/MTSS, PBIS, Section 504, and IEP processes as appropriate.
• Maintain confidential student counseling records and follow ethical standards.
