School Counselor (K–8)

Position Overview
Park Ridge Achievement Academy is seeking a compassionate and experienced School Counselor (K–8) to support the academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of our students.
The School Counselor will provide individual, small-group, and classroom counseling while partnering with families, teachers, administrators, and community resources to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to students.
- Deliver classroom lessons focused on social-emotional skills, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, study skills, personal safety, and career awareness.
- Support students experiencing academic, behavioral, social, or emotional concerns.
- Respond to student crises and coordinate additional services when needed.
- Monitor attendance, academic performance, and behavior to identify students needing additional support.
- Support students and families during school transitions, including the transition to high school.
- Assist 8th-grade students with Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs) and high school pathway exploration.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners.
- Participate in SBLC, RTI/MTSS, PBIS, Section 504, and IEP processes as appropriate.
- Maintain confidential student counseling records and follow applicable ethical and professional standards.
Qualifications
Required:
- Louisiana Ancillary School Counselor (K–12) certificate or valid Louisiana teaching certificate with the School Counselor (K–12) add-on endorsement (or eligibility letter from LDOE).
- Graduate degree in counseling from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Completion of required counseling practicum and internship.
- Passing score on the Praxis School Counselor examination.
- Current training in suicide prevention, crisis response, and mandatory reporting.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of elementary or middle school counseling experience.
- Experience with PBIS, RTI/MTSS, SBLC, and Section 504.
- Training in trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, or social-emotional learning.
