Job summary

Maryland State Department of Education seeks a School Based State Mathematics Coach to improve K-8 math instruction through job-embedded coaching aligned with HQIM and state standards.

The role leads professional learning, models instructional practices, and collaborates with teachers, school leaders, and district staff to ensure consistent, research-based math instruction across grades.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or 36 credit hours in mathematics, STEM, education or a related area.
• Four years of administrative or teaching experience in or affiliated with mathematics programs in P–12 settings or related areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide non-evaluative, job-embedded coaching to strengthen mathematics instruction aligned with the Maryland Policy.
• Deliver professional learning aligned to evidence-based mathematics instruction and HQIM implementation.
• Model systematic math instructional practices through co-teaching and elbow coaching.
• Conduct observations and walkthroughs and provide targeted feedback.
• Lead collaborative planning for unit and lesson internalization focused on math content.
• Document evidence of math instruction using MSDE tools.
• Collaborate with MSDE leadership to align initiatives across schools and regions.
