Job summary

Ascension Catholic Academy and its Drexel Teaching Fellows program offer a two-year residency for aspiring teachers, combining classroom paraprofessional roles with earning a Minnesota K-6 teaching license via the University of St. Thomas.

You’ll work in a Drexel Mission School classroom as you complete degree coursework, move from support to instructional leadership, and receive mentoring, scholarships, and ongoing coaching through two years of residency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and Minnesota K-6 teaching license through University of St. Thomas (in progress or achieved)
• Experience supporting students in classroom settings is desirable
• Ability to work as a paraprofessional and progress to lead instruction

Responsibilities

• Assist lead teacher in Drexel Mission School classrooms 3 days/week in Year One and 4 days/week in Year Two
• Provide small-group and one-on-one instruction in core subjects
• Support classroom routines, transitions, and student supervision
• Assist with accommodations and behavior plans under the teacher's guidance
• Co-plan and progressively lead lessons in math, language arts, science, and social studies
• Support daily prayer and faith-based discussions aligned with Catholic education
• Engage with families and participate in school events to support student growth
• Meet regularly with St. Thomas faculty coach and school mentor for feedback
• Complete Academy program requirements including coursework, field hours, and Virtus training
• Participate in the Flourish early-career retention program throughout residency
