Qualifications

• Maine certification in special education (certificate codes 282, 030, 035)
• Master's degree preferred
• At least three years of successful teaching experience

Responsibilities

• Ensures the implementation of the District's mission and goals
• Promotes a positive environment and interactions with colleagues, parents, students, and visitors
• Recognizes urgency; can distinguish between urgent and important tasks and acts accordingly
• Has knowledge of Response to Intervention/Multi-tiered Systems of Support strategies and best practices
• Assists teachers in examining teaching practices to meet the needs of all students and prevent unnecessary referrals to special education
• Consults with regular and special education teachers on evidence-based instructional strategies
• Guides district pre-referral teams on RtI
• Provides instructional guidance and leadership within MSAD#17 schools
• Has knowledge of Section 504 regulations and supervises 504 plan case management
• Collaborates with staff to monitor progress and data in pre-referral processes
• Facilitates and chairs IEP meetings
• Assists in supervision and evaluation of educational technicians
• Completes academic evaluations and classroom observations for IEP referrals
• Presents academic and behavioral data; participates in IEP development
• Collaborates with administrators on school structures
• Provides staff trainings and monitors timelines and paperwork
• Mentors probationary special education staff and case manages out-of-district students
• Participates in committees/meetings deemed necessary by Director or Principals
• Assists in data collection systems, mentoring and coaching to improve classroom management
• Performs child find responsibilities
