Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Elementary Science Teacher to inspire young minds and foster a love for science in students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The ideal candidate will create a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that promotes inquiry, exploration, and critical thinking. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and age-appropriate science lessons, aligning with state and district standards, and helping students develop a deep understanding of the world around them.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Design and implement science lesson plans that align with the district’s standards and objectives for K-5th grade.
    2. Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, experiments, demonstrations, and field trips to engage students.
    3. Teach foundational science concepts including Earth Science, Physical Science, Life Science, and Environmental Science.
    4. Utilize various teaching methods such as group discussions, experiments, multimedia, and interactive activities to accommodate different learning styles.
    5. Foster an inquiry-based learning environment where students ask questions, investigate, and solve problems.
    6. Establish and maintain a positive, supportive classroom environment that promotes respect, curiosity, and collaboration.
    7. Manage student behavior and maintain discipline, using age-appropriate methods to encourage participation and active learning.
    8. Develop and administer both formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress.
    9. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents on academic performance and behavior.
    10. Adapt teaching strategies based on assessment results to meet the needs of all students.
    11. Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration to create an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to education.
    12. Participate in grade-level meetings, school committees, and professional development opportunities.
    13. Maintain regular communication with parents through conferences, reports, and updates to ensure they are informed of their child’s progress.
    14. Provide support and guidance to parents regarding science education and activities to reinforce learning at home.
    15. Stay current with the latest science education research, teaching strategies, and technology to improve classroom instruction.
    16. Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences to continually enhance teaching skills.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • Valid teaching certification for elementary education in TN.
    • Certification in Elementary Science Education or relevant area (preferred but not required).
    • Prior teaching experience in elementary science education is preferred, but not required.
    • Experience with inquiry-based learning and hands-on science activities is a plus.
    • Strong understanding of K-5 science curriculum and state/national standards.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and safe classroom environment.
    • Ability to use technology and educational tools to enhance instruction.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Enthusiastic, patient, and dedicated to student success.
