Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Elementary Science Teacher to inspire young minds and foster a love for science in students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The ideal candidate will create a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that promotes inquiry, exploration, and critical thinking. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and age-appropriate science lessons, aligning with state and district standards, and helping students develop a deep understanding of the world around them.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Design and implement science lesson plans that align with the district’s standards and objectives for K-5th grade.
- Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, experiments, demonstrations, and field trips to engage students.
- Teach foundational science concepts including Earth Science, Physical Science, Life Science, and Environmental Science.
- Utilize various teaching methods such as group discussions, experiments, multimedia, and interactive activities to accommodate different learning styles.
- Foster an inquiry-based learning environment where students ask questions, investigate, and solve problems.
- Establish and maintain a positive, supportive classroom environment that promotes respect, curiosity, and collaboration.
- Manage student behavior and maintain discipline, using age-appropriate methods to encourage participation and active learning.
- Develop and administer both formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents on academic performance and behavior.
- Adapt teaching strategies based on assessment results to meet the needs of all students.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration to create an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to education.
- Participate in grade-level meetings, school committees, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain regular communication with parents through conferences, reports, and updates to ensure they are informed of their child’s progress.
- Provide support and guidance to parents regarding science education and activities to reinforce learning at home.
- Stay current with the latest science education research, teaching strategies, and technology to improve classroom instruction.
- Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences to continually enhance teaching skills.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification for elementary education in TN.
- Certification in Elementary Science Education or relevant area (preferred but not required).
- Prior teaching experience in elementary science education is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with inquiry-based learning and hands-on science activities is a plus.
- Strong understanding of K-5 science curriculum and state/national standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and safe classroom environment.
- Ability to use technology and educational tools to enhance instruction.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
