Job summary

Tapestry Charter School in Buffalo, NY seeks a K-4 Literacy Interventionist to lead targeted reading support for grades K-4. This 10-month, non-exempt role focuses on RTI frameworks and data-driven instruction to close literacy gaps and raise proficiency in reading and writing.

The teacher provides small-group and pull-out interventions, mentors teachers, delivers professional development, and helps implement a reader's and writer's workshop approach.

Qualifications

  • Professional/Permanent certification in applicable grades with 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of Expeditionary Learning is a plus.
  • Concentration in, master's degree, or higher, in Literacy.
  • Familiarity with RtI and data-driven literacy interventions.

Responsibilities

Job description

POSITION: K-4 Literacy Interventionist

REPORTS TO: K-4 Building Principal

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: 10 Month/ Non Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: The K-4 Intervention Teacher is a highly-qualified teacher who works with K-4 students who require strategic intervention in small-group settings. The focus of the teacher is to develop a student-centered system of interventions that effectively work to close the achievement gap in Literacy. The goal of the intervention specialist is to ensure that students are able to master grade level standards and curriculum by instructing students who have not met state standards. Implementation of RTI framework and Individual student plans and data. The reading interventionist will assist and deliver professional development and help with coaching teachers through the reader's and writer's workshop.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students in pull out and/or classroom setting.
  • Responding to data to meet the needs of all students for fluid RtI Process.
  • Develops lesson plans and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of intellectual, physical and emotional maturity.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to achieve effective participation and learning in all activities and lessons.
  • Evaluates and monitors the educational progress of students using DDI in terms of response to interventions and attainment of proficiency levels; and the educational growth in relation to the student's ability, attitude, interests and conduct.
  • Pushes in and collaborates with classroom teachers.
  • Best practice in literacy effectiveness.
Qualifications/Knowledge Of
  • Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of upper elementary students as it relates to decoding, fluency & comprehension.
  • Know and have used a variety of intervention models, current programs, and strategies.
  • Child growth and development and behavior characteristics of elementary students;
  • Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and the educational trends and research-based findings pertaining to student educational programming;
  • Behavior management and behavior strategies, techniques, methods and conflict resolution procedures;
  • Socio-economic and cultural background differences of general student population; Cultural responsiveness.
  • Trained in interventions and tiers of RtI.
  • Technology including devices and computer programs.
  • Commitment to the success of all children.
  • Demonstrates success in collaborative teaching, managing a mixed-ability classroom and facilitating performance-based learning.
Ability To
  • Plan, organize, develop, and enthusiastically conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program for students in grades K-2 in Literacy.
  • Work with a variety of teachers to implement best practices and models for the reciprocal process of reading and writing.
  • Provide effective learning experiences for students with a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Effectively assess and progress monitor the educational needs of students in order to design, develop and implement sound educational plans.
Experience And Education Requirements

Professional/Permanent certification in applicable grades/subject area with 3 years of teaching experience. Knowledge of Expeditionary Learning is a plus. Classroom experience is essential. A concentration in, master's degree, or higher, in Literacy.
