Job summary

Colorado Youth for a Change (CYC) is seeking a K-3 Reading Tutor under the Colorado Reading Corps AmeriCorps program. The position supports kindergarten through third grade students with daily, scripted literacy sessions, guided by coaches, to help reach grade-level reading proficiency.

Service runs during the school year with full-time hours (35–40 per week). Term begins Oct 19, 2026 and ends May 28, 2027, including onboarding and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• 17 years or older by start date.
• Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
• Have a high school diploma or GED.
• Not have served more than three AmeriCorps terms previously.
• Submit to a full background check, including a sex offender registry check, state criminal history registry check, and FBI fingerprint-based check.
• Speak, read, and write English fluently.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate online systems and email.

Responsibilities

• Identify students who qualify for Reading Corps tutoring services based on assessments and coach direction.
• Conduct one-on-one or paired tutoring sessions using scripted literacy strategies with high fidelity.
• Develop and maintain a weekly tutoring schedule to maximize numbers served.
• Assist students in improving reading skills to meet grade level expectations.
• Assess student progress using benchmark assessments and ongoing progress monitoring.
• Record weekly progress data in an online system and maintain confidentiality.
• Review student data with Coaches to gauge strategy effectiveness.
• Participate in coaching sessions and implement feedback.
• Provide opportunities for family involvement when available.
