Job summary

Rochester Public Schools is seeking a Coordinator of Advanced Learning to provide leadership and operational oversight for K–12 advanced learning services.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Supports, the role ensures equitable access to rigorous programming, including acceleration and twice-exceptional learners, through identification, curriculum development, staff development, family engagement, and program evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in gifted education or advanced academic programming.
  • Minnesota Teaching license
  • Deep understanding of instructional differentiation, student assessment, and accelerationpractices
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Cultural competence and a commitment to educational equity

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for the needs of advanced, and twice-exceptional students, especially those from underrepresented populations.
  • Serve as the district lead for student advancement services and acceleration processes(early entrance, subject/grade advancement).
  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of advanced learning programs K–12.
  • Coordinate identification, assessment, instructional planning, and enrichment opportunities for gifted learners.
  • Ensure programming aligns with Minnesota state standards and mandates, district goals, and current research-based best practices.
  • Research and recommend evidence-based instructional materials and resources; support with curriculum selection and instructional planning.
  • Coordinate with District leaders to support school-based advanced learning services and curriculum development.
  • Oversee and administer assessments for advanced learner identification and student advancement.
  • Use data and multiple criteria to identify students for services and place them accordingly.
  • Interpret and communicate testing results to educators, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and monitor consistent identification and placement protocols that support equitable access.
  • Design and lead professional learning on advanced learning practices, student identification, and instructional strategies.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and onboarding for advanced learning staff and support personnel.
  • Facilitate regular department meetings and PLCs to promote collaboration and continuous improvement amongst the Advanced Learning teachers.
  • Stay abreast of developments in advanced learning education through ongoing professional learning and conference participation.
  • Foster strong partnerships with school leaders, teachers, parents, and community partners to support advanced learners.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with families through meetings, newsletters, phone calls, and the district website.
  • Respond to inquiries from families and staff and support smooth transitions for new students and families.
  • Work collaboratively with other areas such as Special Education, Multilingual Learning, Elementary and Secondary Education, and Research and Evidence.
  • Coordinate and monitor department budgets, staff allocations, and instructional resources.
  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies, mandates, and grant requirements.
  • Maintain records related to student services, assessments, placement, and staffing.
  • Prepare required reports and oversee use of data systems (e.g., Skyward) for program tracking and analysis.
  • Coordinate the K–12 advanced learning staff and provide clear direction, and support for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in hiring and human resources processes in partnership with the Director of Academic Supports and site administrators.
  • Participate in district committees and strategic initiatives related to advanced learning.
