Job summary

State of Georgia's Gainesville RYDC is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to oversee custody and care of youth, provide guidance and a structured environment, and support safety. The role includes supervising staff, handling administrative tasks, and maintaining security of facilities.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, six months of related experience, completion of Leadership Core training within six months, and possession of Georgia P.O.S.T.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and six (6) months of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent.
• Must successfully complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months of employment; or (4) years of military experience.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security and care of youth in accordance with DJJ policies and procedures.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to detained youth to promote safety and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork and maintain records and reports.
• Inspect and manage security equipment and technology to support safety.
• Intervene to maintain order and supervise youth behavior; support training of subordinate staff.
