Job summary

The Department of Juvenile Justice in Georgia is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant at Aaron Cohn RYDC in Columbus. The role oversees custody, security, and care of detained youth, guiding staff and ensuring a safe, orderly environment while supporting rehabilitation and pro-social behavior.

Candidates must have a high school diploma/GED, six months of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer, and complete Leadership Core training within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and six months of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent.
• Must successfully complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months of employment.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for custody, security, and care of youth per policies and procedures.
• Provides direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth focusing on safety and rehabilitation.
• Completes administrative paperwork and maintains records and reports.
• Inspects and maintains control of security equipment and technology to support safety.
• Maintains order by intervening with youth and supervising to prevent unsafe behavior.
• Oversees staff training, selection, and orientation of subordinate correctional security personnel.
