Job summary

DC Office of the Ombudsperson for Children seeks a Juvenile Justice Oversight Director to independently monitor, analyze data, and report on DYRS facilities and services. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in juvenile justice, social work, or a related field.
• Advanced knowledge of juvenile-justice policies and Federal and District law.
• Experience conducting facility assessments and investigations.
• Ability to present recommendations on complex, highly sensitive issues.
• Strong oral and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in line with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent monitoring, data analysis, and reporting on DYRS facilities and services to improve outcomes, safety, and access.
• Conduct regular announced and unannounced facility site visits and evaluate conditions against best practices.
• Receive, log, and investigate complaints about facility conditions and service delivery.
• Identify systemic themes and reforms across investigations.
• Track DYRS adherence to the ROAD Act and progress on work plan goals.
• Consult with District agencies on structural or service-delivery improvements.
