Job summary

City of New York is seeking a seasoned administrator for the Division of Youth and Family Justice. The role focuses on managing secure detention operations, supervising staff, and ensuring safety standards in line with policy and regulatory requirements.

The selected candidate will conduct interviews, oversee staffing, and implement programs across youth services. The position requires a master's degree with substantial administration experience in child-care settings.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in social work with four years of full-time, paid experience in a child care setting or related field, including two years in administration.
• Alternative: Master’s in sociology, psychology, education, or public administration with five years of relevant experience including two years in administration.
• Equivalent education/experience with two years of administrative experience in a child care setting.

Responsibilities

• Manage operations of an assigned tour of the secure detention facility by planning and evaluating ongoing programs.
• Provide coverage for facility operations in the absence of the Executive Director of Operations.
• Conduct interviews and select candidates for vacancies in secure detention.
• Manage staff scheduling, absenteeism, and overtime reduction.
• Implement policies to ensure safety and security for youth and staff.
• Coordinate activities of youth services to meet program needs.
• Conduct conferences with staff on policy implementation and behavioral management.
• Demonstrate Safe Crisis Management competency and ensure SCM training compliance.
• Review incident reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Conduct video review for incident follow-up and trend analysis.
• Investigate child abuse allegations and critical incidents with timely reporting and corrective actions.
• Assess tour areas and develop action plans to address operational needs.
• Conduct tours of living units and oversee city-time issues.
