Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED plus six months’ experience as Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 or equivalent.
• Must complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months; or have four years of military experience.
• Must possess and maintain GA POST certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security, and care of youth per JJ policy and procedures.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth focusing on safety and rehabilitation.
• Inspect and maintain security equipment and records for safety of youth in custody.
• Maintain order by supervising youth and intervening to prevent unsafe behavior.
• Assist in training and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Review youth information to identify issues needing attention.
• Oversee officer activities to ensure custody and welfare of youth.
• May serve as Shift Supervisor in Lieutenant’s absence.
