Job summary

State of Georgia's Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant in Atlanta. You will help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for detained youths, guiding staff and enforcing pro-social behavior while adhering to policies.

Responsibilities include supervision, paperwork, and ensuring safety; candidates must have a high school diploma/GED, 6 months' experience, and P.O.S.T. certification within 6 months, plus complete Leadership Core modules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and six (6) months of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent.
• Must successfully complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months of employment; or four (4) years of military experience.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
• Physical agility standards; capable of meeting agency requirements and possible testing.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security and care of youth following DJJ policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth to promote safety and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork and maintain records; supervise subordinate staff.
• Oversee activities to ensure safety and welfare of youth; assist shift supervisor as needed.
