Job summary

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in Decatur, GA is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Officer for DeKalb RYDC. You will safeguard the custody and safety of youth, uphold facility procedures, and support a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment.

The role focuses on supervision, conduct enforcement, movement of youth, and positive redirection to encourage pro-social behavior, with visitor screening and routine use of security equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice policies.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure emphasizing safety, conduct, care and rehabilitation.
• Conduct security checks, contraband searches, counts, and supervise youth in housing, classrooms, and other areas.
• Maintain order and discipline through active supervision and behavior management.
• Oversee movement of youth within facilities and during travel or temporary leaves.
• Promote adaptive behavior using positive reinforcement and coaching.
• Screen visitors and staff to prevent unauthorized access and contraband.
• Utilize security equipment to support youth safety and well-being.

Education
