Job summary

State of Georgia in Waycross, GA seeks a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant at Waycross RYDC to supervise youth custody and assist the Shift Supervisor. You will ensure safety, administer facilities operations, and model pro-social behavior for detained youth.

The role requires state POST certification within six months, Leadership Core training, and the ability to train subordinate staff while maintaining records and compliance with DJJ policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus six months of Juvenile Correctional Officer experience.
• Must complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months of employment; or four years of military experience.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with DJJ policies and procedures.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth emphasizing safety and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork and maintain records and reports.
• Inspect and maintain control of security equipment and technology to support youth safety.
• Maintain order and discipline by intervening with youth and supervising staff.
