Job summary

American Electric Power in Corpus Christi, TX seeks an entry-level dispatcher to monitor and regulate transmission system operations, coordinating with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities. You will assist with switching for maintenance and emergencies, and maintain logs of events and conditions.

Under supervision, you will support real-time operation, monitor voltages, and ensure safe, reliable service. A two-year technical degree or equivalent experience is required, plus a valid driver

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• High School diploma with 2 years experience in operating a power system.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and regulating voltage and real/reactive power flows for the transmission system.
• Assist in real-time operation of the AEP transmission system with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Assist in real-time operation of distribution equipment inside the station fence with regional dispatch centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders listing steps and safety tagging for equipment removals for maintenance or construction.
• Direct switching operations under emergency conditions to restore service safely and quickly.
• Maintain a log of events and transactions related to facility operation.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system and related functions.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions.
