Job summary

Red Alpha is hiring a Junior Systems Engineer to help plan, design, and implement a mission-critical system in collaboration with government customers, systems engineers, software developers, and UX professionals.

You will support requirements development, Agile planning, developer coordination, testing, and customer demonstrations throughout the lifecycle. Up to one day of telework per week is permitted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Ability to elicit, analyze, and document functional requirements from customers.
• Translate requirements into actionable Jira stories and epics for development teams.
• Experience with functional/manual testing of application features.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaboration tools (Jira/Confluence).
• Strong written and verbal communication for presenting technical work to non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Java or JavaScript frameworks and RESTful microservices.

Responsibilities

• Gather, analyze, and document functional requirements from government customers and stakeholders.
• Translate requirements into Jira user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.
• Support sprint planning and backlog grooming for proper scoping and sequencing.
• Collaborate with developers to address blockers during sprints.
• Conduct initial functional testing to validate features against requirements.
• Present completed features to customers and capture feedback for iterations.
• Partner with UX for usability considerations reflected in requirements.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, demos, retrospectives).
