Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking an Associate System Operator to join its System Operations team in Indianapolis. The role focuses on safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Bulk Electric System with hands-on training and career growth.

Under supervision, you will support field operations, assist with switching, monitor system conditions, and help ensure regulatory compliance while developing professional credentials and NERC readiness in a dynamic, 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree with coursework in mathematics, electrical theory, or related technical field; or equivalent work experience.
• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to obtain NERC certification within six months of hire.
• Experience in maintaining real-time utility operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Participate in training activities to develop knowledge for Bulk Electric System operation.
• Assist with field switching operations by authorized personnel.
• Support actions during emergency conditions to protect system integrity and safety.
• Collaborate with leadership and interconnected utilities to maintain reliable system operations on a 24-hour basis.
• Monitor system conditions and communicate corrective recommendations.
• Help ensure compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements.
