Job summary

Prairie Engineers, P.C. in the greater St. Louis region seeks a Jr. Engineer to support subsurface utility engineering (SUE) efforts.

You will analyze subsurface data and produce technical reports, conflict analyses, and utility maps for civil infrastructure projects. The role requires a Bachelor’s in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program, FE exam progress (within 6 months), and 0–2 years of SUE experience. Proficiency with CAD/GIS tools and a valid driver's license are preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Passed FE exam or will within the first 6 months of employment.
2 years of experience in civil engineering focused on subsurface utility engineering (SUE) or utility design.
Proficiency with CAD and GIS tools; ability to quickly learn new software.
Valid driver's license; ability to travel nights/weekends as schedules require.

Responsibilities

Contribute to collection, interpretation, and analysis of subsurface utility data using geophysical and survey technology.
Develop detailed utility maps and engineering drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS systems.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of deliverables through thorough quality review.
Support development of SUE work plans and technical reports for complex civil projects.
Collaborate with project teams, clients, and utility owners to solve underground conflicts.
Maintain a strong safety culture in field and office environments.
