SunEnergy1 in Charlotte, NC seeks a Junior Commissioning & SCADA Engineer to support commissioning, testing, and integration of utility-scale solar facilities. You will gain hands-on experience with SCADA, plant controls, and NERC compliance while working with experienced engineers and field teams.

The ideal candidate is an early-career electrical engineer eager to develop expertise in power systems, substation controls, and grid operations, with 0–3 years of experience and willingness to travel

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
0–3 years engineering experience; internships or co-ops welcomed.
Understanding of electrical power systems.
Familiarity with SCADA systems or industrial communications is a plus.
Exposure to protective relays, PLCs, RTUs, or automation desirable.
Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards preferred but not required.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to travel approximately 30–50% to project sites.

Responsibilities

Assist with commissioning of utility-scale solar, BESS, substations, and related electrical infrastructure.
Support pre-commissioning inspections, functional testing, energization, and turnover activities.
Review commissioning procedures and verify completion of required documentation.
Coordinate with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, utilities, and project teams during commissioning.
Participate in startup, troubleshooting, and performance testing of electrical equipment.
Assist with configuration, testing, and validation of SCADA systems.
Support integration of inverters, protective relays, meters, RTUs, PLCs, and communications equipment.
Help verify point-to-point testing between field devices and control centers.
Troubleshoot communication issues involving fiber, Ethernet, serial communications, and industrial protocols.
Support development and maintenance of SCADA documentation and system drawings.
Assist with maintaining documentation required for applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
Support compliance audits, evidence collection, and record retention.
Help track required testing, maintenance, and cybersecurity documentation.
Work with operations and engineering teams to support ongoing compliance initiatives.
Review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
Assist with equipment inspections and field quality verification.
Prepare commissioning reports and technical documentation.
Support engineering evaluations and field issue resolution.
Travel to project sites as required.
