Job summary

Hatch is seeking a dynamic Junior Process Engineer to support the Metals group at the Salt Lake City, UT office. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team on process studies, modelling, and data interpretation to advance lithium-ion battery and rare earth projects.

Recent graduates with strong academics and a willingness to travel will contribute to design deliverables, cost estimates, and process facility layouts in a collaborative, in-office setting with opportunities for professional

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Apply problem solving to complete project work
• Assist process team in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
• Assist with studies on lithium-ion battery and rare earth projects
• Develop process control, simulation, automation, prediction and operation models
• Assist with interpretation of simulation and field data and develop test work programs
• Prepare engineering documents and calculations (mass/energy balances, design criteria, reports)
• Assist with project management within scope, schedule, and budget
• Assist with analysis of on-site data and reporting

Qualifications

• Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon to be university/college graduates with little or no professional experience but possessing relevant skills
• Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, extractive metallurgy, or a relevant field
• Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

As the successful candidate, you will

• Apply problem solving skills to complete project work
• Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team environment, with focus on assisting the process team
• Assist in studies for various commodities including lithium-ion battery chemical related projects and rare earth element projects
• Assist with developing process control, simulation, automation, prediction and operation models
• Assist with interpretation of simulation and field data as well as developing test work programs
• Assist with preparation of engineering documents and calculations, such as mass and energy balances, design criteria, engineering reports, process facility layout, hazard studies, cost estimation, etc.
• Assist with project management within the scope, schedule, and budget provided by the process engineers and project managers
• Assist with analysis of on-site data and reporting

You bring to the role

• Strong academic record
• Previous co-op or summer work terms within metallurgical or chemical process plants or engineering is an asset
• Academic or work experience with process modelling, process equipment and developing process engineering deliverables is an asset
• Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites
• Ability to effectively utilize written and oral communication skills to describe, depict and explain their work to team members and clients
• Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
