Job summary

Hatch is seeking a Hydrometallurgy Process Intern to support the Metals group from our Salt Lake City, UT office. Reporting to the Metals group, you will assist in studies on rare earths, critical minerals and battery metals and contribute to design calculations and process modelling.

This role emphasizes collaboration within a global team and practical, in-office work with flexibility when needed, offering mentorship and growth in a dynamic mining and metals environment.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, extractive metallurgy, or a relevant field.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Academic or work experience with process modelling, process equipment and developing process engineering deliverables is an asset.
• Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Assist in studies for various commodities including rare earths, critical minerals and battery metals related projects
• Prepare design calculations and develop of mass balance models in simulation software (METSIM, SysCAD, IDEAS etc)
• Evaluate process alternatives and equipment/technology selection
• Evaluate materials of construction
• Provide process design requirements to designers and review their plant layout developments
• Prepare process equipment data sheets, including technical details and duties as required
• Ensure process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent
• Write process descriptions and control philosophies
• Work with the project team to prepare capital and operating cost estimates
• Provide technical input/direction and assign work to designers, technicians, and others
• Liaise with clients, contractor representatives, and/or project field personnel as necessary to assist with meeting key project deliverables

• Strong academic record


• Previous co-op or summer work terms within metallurgical or chemical process plants or engineering is an asset


• Academic or work experience with process modelling, process equipment and developing process engineering deliverables is an asset


• Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
