Hatch is seeking a dynamic Junior Engineer to join the Metals group in Salt Lake City, UT. The role supports a global office network and emphasizes practical, safe, and sustainable engineering solutions.

Ideal candidates are recent graduates with relevant internships, a degree in chemical/metallurgical engineering, and strong MS Office skills. The position requires in-person collaboration with occasional travel to project sites.

Qualifications

  • Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon-to-be graduates with limited experience but relevant skills.
  • Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, extractive metallurgy, or a relevant field
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Responsibilities

  • Apply problem solving skills to complete project work.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team environment with focus on assisting the process team.
  • Assist in studies for lithium-ion battery chemical related projects and rare earth element projects.
  • Assist with developing process control, simulation, automation, prediction and operation models.
  • Assist with interpretation of simulation and field data and developing test work programs.
  • Assist with preparation of engineering documents and calculations such as mass and energy balances and design criteria.
  • Assist with project management within scope, schedule and budget.
  • Assist with analysis of on-site data and reporting.

Hatch is seeking a dynamic Junior Engineer. Reporting to the Metals group, you will support offices globally working from our Salt Lake City, UT office location.

Qualifications:
  • Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon to be university/college graduates with little or no professional experience but possessing relevant skills
  • Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, extractive metallurgy, or a relevant field
  • Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Apply problem solving skills to complete project work
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team environment, with focus on assisting the process team
  • Assist in studies for various commodities including lithium-ion battery chemical related projects and rare earth element projects
  • Assist with developing process control, simulation, automation, prediction and operation models
  • Assist with interpretation of simulation and field data as well as developing test work programs
  • Assist with preparation of engineering documents and calculations, such as mass and energy balances, design criteria, engineering reports, process facility layout, hazard studies, cost estimation, etc.
  • Assist with project management within the scope, schedule, and budget provided by the process engineers and project managers
  • Assist with analysis of on-site data and reporting
You bring to the role:
  • Strong academic record
  • Previous co-op or summer work terms within metallurgical or chemical process plants or engineering is an asset
  • Academic or work experience with process modelling, process equipment and developing process engineering deliverables is an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites
  • Ability to effectively utilize written and oral communication skills to describe, depict and explain their work to team members and clients
  • Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
