Job summary

American Electric Power in Anadarko, OK seeks an entry-level Operator Helper to support plant operation under supervision. You will assist equipment operators, learn to isolate, inspect and return equipment to service, and help maintain plant areas.

The role requires a two-year associate degree in power plant technology or related field, the ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and be available for call-outs. A pre-employment assessment is required.

Qualifications

• Two year Associate degree in power plant technology or equivalent.
• Must complete online pre-employment assessment with a result of 'recommended'.
• Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
• Must complete, in time frames set by the Company, all required training to advance to Equipment Operator.
• Must be available to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends, and be available for call-out.

Responsibilities

• Assist equipment operators while learning duties such as isolating, cleaning, inspecting and returning plant equipment to service.
• Operate and maintain plant auxiliary systems and monitor equipment for normal operation.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and servicing of tools and equipment; follow safety rules.
• Read flow diagrams and revise prints; conduct tests and prepare related reports and curves.
• Support boiler preparation and coal handling as required; assist in emergency response training.

Education

Associate degree in power plant technology

High school diploma with four years related work experience

High school diploma with two years related military experience
