Job summary

Alabama Power is seeking a Plant Auxiliary to support generating plants. This entry-level role involves a variety of physically demanding tasks, safety-focused work, and potential progression through specialist tracks.

You will contribute to plant operations and maintenance, with rotating shifts and overtime as needed. Candidates should have 2+ years of technical education and be able to lift heavy tools, work in confined spaces, and endure temperature extremes.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of secondary education or technical degree preferred.
• 1-2 years of manual labor, construction, maintenance, electrical or working on heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Physically demanding activities in varying temperatures; bend, kneel, crawl, stoop and stand for long periods.
• Operate all equipment and hand tools as needed.
• Knowledge of mechanics, electricity, shop machinery, welding and piping work is required, but experience is preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Must pass POSS and MASS tests.
• Rotating shifts are required.
• Overtime, call outs, weekends and holidays may be required.
• Live within one hour of the plant or relocate within one hour (no relocation assistance).

Responsibilities

• Assist in operation and maintenance of Alabama Power generating plants.
• Work rotating shifts and be available for overtime and call outs.
• Lift and move heavy-duty tools and equipment safely.
• Perform activities in height and temperature-extreme environments.
• Participate in POSS/MASS assessments after application.
