General Motors Energy and Propulsion Systems Research Lab seeks a Power Electronics and Energy Conversion Systems Researcher to advance inverter and power-conversion technologies for propulsion and non-propulsion applications. You will design, prototype, test, and demonstrate high- and low-voltage power-electronics solutions while applying controls, modeling, and optimization techniques.

Competenze

PhD in Electrical Engineering, electrical systems, power electronics, or related field.
Must graduate between August 2026 - June 2027.
U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee).
Strong foundation in power-electronics circuits, modeling, and EE fundamentals.
Experience with digital/analog control and embedded controls programming.
Hands-on experience prototyping hardware and software experiments.
Ability to assess tradeoffs in efficiency, density, cost, mass, and EMI/EMC.
Familiarity with power-electronics tools: PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium, LTspice, Maxwell, JMAG, Ansys, Altair.

Mansioni

Research, design, model, simulate, prototype, test, and demonstrate advanced inverter and power-conversion systems.
Define architectures for three-phase export-power and uninterruptible-AC-power applications (10kW+).
Investigate interfaces with grids, energy storage, HV batteries, and diesel-gen systems.
Develop and evaluate inverter/DC-DC converter topologies for propulsion and non-propulsion uses.
Collaborate with GM Energy, GM Defense, Advanced Engineering, Product Development, and external partners.
Prepare high-quality research reports, presentations, and publications.
Lead technical discussions, communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
Conduct bench and system-level experiments to evaluate EMI/EMC, thermal, and reliability aspects.
