Job summary

Serco Inc. in the United States seeks a Patent Classifier to support USPTO and related patent classifications.

You will determine classifications using technical knowledge, perform research, and prepare written reports for patent attorneys and others in the IP industry. The role requires a bachelor’s degree, 0–2 years of experience (or 2 years in lieu of a degree), strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• 0-2 years experience, with 2 years in lieu of degree possible.
• Ability to think critically and understand technical concepts.
• Experience with databases, AI or information security preferred.
• Travel up to 25% and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Determine appropriate classifications per US and international systems using knowledge, research and automation.
• Prepare written reports for patent attorneys and IP industry stakeholders.
• Use automated systems to perform research and classification operations.
• Work independently in a production-based environment and collaborate with a team.
• Participate in ongoing training to expand knowledge across technical fields.
