Job summary

Westmoreland Mining LLC seeks an Engineer I to translate long-term plans into actionable operation plans at the Craig, Colorado site. You will develop dig, drill, and haulage plans while coordinating with operations and maintenance to meet reclamation deadlines.

The role involves field surveys with drones, progress reporting, and ensuring constructability of designs. A Bachelor's in Engineering is required, with EIT/FE preferred and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • EIT/FE preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license throughout employment.
  • Highly organized with effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD, Carlson Mining, Minescape or similar mine planning software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with drone technology such as Pix4D or FLIR is advantageous.
  • Experience with survey flying drones is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed daily, weekly, and monthly project schedules (dig plans, drill and blast plans, haulage plans) that align with the overall mine reclamation contract; are practical and safe to execute.
  • Prepare and publish short-term dig and push plans to equipment operators for use on machine guidance systems.
  • Monitor actual equipment productivity against planned targets on a daily and weekly basis; identify variances and propose corrective actions.
  • Perform field survey work with drones and manual survey equipment to measure conformance with final reclamation designs and post-mining topography.
  • Support preparation of project progress reports, including production metrics, schedule updates, and field observations.
  • Assist with soil respread quality control activities and maintain soil stockpile records; collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to ensure plan execution.
  • Conduct regular field visits to observe operations, verify plans, and gain hands-on project experience.
  • Adhere to safety policies and regulations in office and field environments.
