Job summary

Citigroup Inc. is seeking a Junior Legal Counsel for Markets Contracts Negotiations to provide legal guidance to the Markets Business and support the firm’s derivatives operations, including ISDA contract negotiations and other OTC agreements.

The role handles drafting, amendments and contract execution, works with internal stakeholders and external counsel, and focuses on risk-aware, commercially practical solutions in a fast-paced financial services environment.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in financial services.
• Bar license in good standing to practice law.
• Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact the business.
• Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills.
• Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to the Markets Business, participating in strategic initiatives and interpreting relevant laws and regulations.
• Review constitutional documentation and netting opinions; guide negotiations and maintain detailed records in legal tech systems.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to cover ISDA contracts and other OTC derivatives and clearing documentation.
• Support evaluation of business proposals by analyzing documentation and applying risk appetite against industry standards.
• Collaborate across lines of business and with risk/compliance to achieve coordinated outcomes.
• Identify and manage legal, regulatory and reputational risk by monitoring developments and escalating as appropriate.
• Assess risk in business decisions, safeguarding Citigroup and clients by ensuring compliance and governance.
