Responsibilities

  • Perform daily reconciliations of portfolio positions, cash balances, and P&L with prime brokers and third-party fund administrators.
  • Investigate and resolve trade breaks while coordinating with brokers and administrators for timely settlement.
  • Process daily trade activity and respond to investment team inquiries.
  • Monitor and process corporate actions, dividends, proxy activity, and other lifecycle events.
  • Review financing relationships and cash balances with counterparties to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Support regulatory and investor reporting requirements.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate NAV close and financial reporting with fund administrator and external auditors.

Job description

Our client is a boutique alternative investment firm seeking a highly motivated Operations professional to partner directly with the CFO. This is a broad, hands-on position that will serve as the CFO's primary operational resource, supporting all aspects of middle- and back-office functions within a lean, collaborative environment.

The role offers exposure across fund operations, fund accounting, financial reporting, trade support, service provider oversight, and operational infrastructure. The ideal candidate enjoys wearing multiple hats, taking ownership of processes, and working closely with senior leadership in a growing investment organization.

Ideal Profile

  • 2-10 years of experience in fund operations, within a hedge fund, alternative asset manager, or prime brokerage environment
  • Experience working in a smaller investment management firm where responsibilities span both accounting and operations ideally
  • Looking for someone with growth potential rather than a highly senior manager
  • Equity Long/Short

Compensation

  • Base salary targeted up to $140,000
  • Target total compensation approximately $200,000-$250,000
  • Full-time, in-office position 5 days a week in midtown Manhattan.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily reconciliations of portfolio positions, cash balances, and profit & loss with prime brokers and third-party fund administrators
  • Investigate and resolve trade breaks while coordinating with brokers, counterparties, and administrators to ensure timely settlement
  • Process daily trade activity and respond to investment team inquiries
  • Monitor and process corporate actions, dividends, proxy activity, and other lifecycle events
  • Review financing relationships and cash balances with counterparties to identify optimization opportunities
  • Support regulatory and investor reporting requirements
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reporting
  • Partner closely with the fund administrator throughout the NAV close and financial reporting cycle
  • Review the accuracy of accounting records, reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by third-party service providers
  • Coordinate annual audit requests and liaise with external auditors
  • Assist with management company accounting, accruals, expense allocations, and other finance initiatives

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in operational due diligence meetings and respond to investor operational inquiries
  • Assist with onboarding new service providers and counterparties
  • Support operational compliance initiatives and internal procedures
  • Maintain relationships with administrators, auditors, brokers, and other key external partners
  • Participate in valuation and compliance committee processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation, technology, and process enhancements

Qualifications

  • 2-10 years of experience in fund operations, fund accounting, or prime brokerage
  • Experience supporting multi-asset investment strategies is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of hedge fund accounting, fund structures, NAV reporting, and financial statements
  • Experience working with third-party fund administrators and external auditors
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a small-team environment
  • Experience with portfolio management, order management, or accounting platforms is advantageous
  • Familiarity with AI or automation tools for operational efficiency is a plus
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with strong follow-through
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and eager to learn
