Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Nashville, Tennessee team. You will support investigations, assist with design of foundations and earth retention systems, and collaborate with multidisciplinary staff on transportation, water, and environmental projects.

You will gain hands-on experience through office and field work, learn geotechnical modeling tools, and contribute to reports and technical documents while supporting project delivery across the Southeast.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
• 1 year of related experience.
• Willingness to travel domestically or internationally as required.

Responsibilities

• Support geotechnical investigations, subsurface explorations, and field data collection activities.
• Perform engineering analyses and contribute to the design of foundations, retaining structures, excavations, embankments, and geo-environmental projects.
• Evaluate geotechnical data and soil/rock properties to support recommendations and design development.
• Assist with preparation of geotechnical reports, specifications, calculations, and construction documents.
• Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and CDM Smith quality standards.
• Participate in site visits, field observations, and construction-phase services to verify design assumptions.
