Job summary

Dave Steel Company, a Walters Group Company, is seeking a Jr. Fitter/Welder for our Asheville Fabrication Facility on the 2nd shift. You will read fabrication drawings, measure precisely in feet, inches and fractions, and operate carbon air-arc equipment for back gouging while following safety practices and PPE requirements.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you’ll join a team focused on quality fabrication and reliable service on industrial projects across the United States.

Qualifications

• Read and follow detailed fabrication drawings.
• Measure using feet, inches, and fractions.
• Operate carbon air-arc equipment for back gouging.
• Maintain safe work practices and PPE at all times.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Jr. Fitter/Welder will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Read and follow detailed written instructions and fabrication drawings.
• Perform accurate measurements and calculations using feet, inches, and fractions.
• Operate carbon air-arc equipment for back gouging processes.
• Ensure safe work practices are adhered to, and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.

Training

• Learn to read and interpret blueprints.
• Learn to read a tape measure.
• Learn to operate overhead cranes.
• Learn health and safety procedures.
• Learn to be a team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.
• Learn organizational skills and learn to be flexible in managing changing priorities.
• Learn communication skills–both written and oral.
• Learn analytical and problem-solving skills.
