Job summary

Dave Steel Company, a Walters Group Company, is seeking skilled welders/fitters for our Asheville fabrication facility on 2nd shift. You will read drawings, measure with tape, and perform back gouging with carbon arc equipment while following safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of fitting/welding structural steel experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes.
• Current or past AWS certification for FCAW, MCAW.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
• A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and associates in a collegial, yet demanding environment.
• Organization skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities.
• Communication skills–both written and oral.
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Read and follow detailed written instructions and fabrication drawings.
• Perform accurate measurements and calculations using feet, inches, and fractions.
• Successfully pass a 1-inch thick 2-G welder qualification.
• Pass a tack welder qualification (visual macro break test).
• Operate carbon air-arc equipment for back gouging processes.
• Ensure safe work practices are adhered to, and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
• Mentor apprentices and junior fitter/welders by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.
