Job summary

Fairwinds Technologies is seeking an entry-level embedded software engineer to join our xG and Mixed Signal product teams. You will develop, debug, and maintain software on Linux-based platforms, including Ubuntu, with C/C++ and some Python tooling, closely collaborating with hardware engineers.

You will bring up processors and development kits, integrate with radios and RF hardware, participate in code reviews, CI, and provide documentation and test procedures, with growing ownership over time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, completed or expected.
• Experience programming in C or C++ (academic, internship, or work).
• Basic familiarity with Linux from coursework or projects.
• Foundational understanding of computer architecture, networks, OS, or embedded systems.
• Ability to solve problems, learn new hardware/software, and document work clearly.
• Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary engineering environment and communicate with teammates.
• Ability to satisfy customer, site-access, export-control, and security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, debug, and maintain embedded software on Linux-based platforms.
• Write and test C/C++ software; use Python for automation and tooling.
• Bring up processors, development kits, carrier boards, microcontrollers, peripherals, and connected subsystems with hardware engineers.
• Support device control, monitoring, configuration, logging, health/status reporting, and web or API interfaces.
• Collaborate across xG and Mixed Signal teams; participate in code reviews and CI/CD practices.
• Support lab and field testing, customer demonstrations, and root-cause troubleshooting.
