Job summary

STV is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer in our Boston, MA office to develop expertise in transportation, transit, rail, and infrastructure projects across North America.

You will support planning, design, analysis, and integration of electrical systems, gaining exposure to power systems, facilities electrical systems, and signaling interfaces while collaborating with senior engineers and specialists.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Systems Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
• 0–3 years of electrical engineering experience.
• internship/co-op experience in electrical systems, transportation infrastructure, power systems, transit, rail, or facilities engineering.
• Familiarity with engineering calculations and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel occasionally to project sites and client locations.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of electrical systems for transportation, transit, rail, and infrastructure projects.
• Assist with preparation of electrical design calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and engineering studies.
• Develop low- and medium-voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding and bonding, equipment layouts, and control system interfaces.
• Perform engineering calculations including load analysis, voltage drop, short-circuit, and equipment sizing.
• Assist with field investigations, site visits, equipment assessments, and data collection.
• Support multidisciplinary coordination with civil, structural, track, signals, communications, traction power, and facilities teams.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and technical documentation with supervision.
• Participate in testing, commissioning, and startup activities as required.
• Prepare project documentation, presentations, cost estimates, and engineering deliverables.
• Attend client meetings, project workshops, and technical reviews.
• Support project managers in schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
• Continue professional development through technical training and project experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to develop technical expertise while working on some of the most complex transportation, transit, rail, and infrastructure projects throughout North America.

The successful candidate will support the planning, design, analysis, and integration of electrical systems for transportation and infrastructure projects. Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, this role provides exposure to power systems, facilities electrical systems, transit and rail infrastructure, communications systems, signaling interfaces, and multidisciplinary project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of electrical systems for transportation, transit, rail, and infrastructure projects.
• Assist with preparation of electrical design calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and engineering studies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Systems Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Or a related engineering discipline
• 0–3 years of electrical engineering experience.
• Internship, co-op, research, or project experience related to electrical systems, transportation infrastructure, power systems, transit, rail, or facilities engineering.
• Understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles and design practices.
• Familiarity with engineering calculations and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites and client locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward obtaining EIT/FE credentials.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or other engineering design platforms.
• Familiarity with electrical analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar tools.
• Exposure to transportation, transit, rail, airport, roadway, tunnel, or industrial infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, AREMA, or related codes and practices.
• Experience through internships or academic projects involving:
  • Power distribution systems

Compensation Range

$82,862.07 - $94,699.51
