STV is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our growing Systems Division in our Boston, MA office.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to develop technical expertise while working on some of the most complex transportation, transit, rail, and infrastructure projects throughout North America. The successful candidate will support the planning, design, analysis, and integration of electrical systems for transportation and infrastructure projects. Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, this role provides exposure to power systems, facilities electrical systems, transit and rail infrastructure, communications systems, signaling interfaces, and multidisciplinary project delivery. At STV, you'll gain hands‑on experience, work directly with industry experts, and contribute to projects that help move people and communities forward.
Support the design and development of electrical systems for transportation, transit, rail, and infrastructure projects. Assist with preparation of electrical design calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and engineering studies. Participate in the development of: Low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems Lighting systems Grounding and bonding systems Electrical equipment layouts Communications and control system interfaces Transit and rail facilities electrical systems Perform engineering calculations including load analysis, voltage drop, short-circuit, and equipment sizing evaluations. Assist with field investigations, site visits, equipment assessments, and data collection efforts. Support multidisciplinary coordination with civil, structural, track, signals, communications, traction power, and facilities engineering teams. Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and technical documentation under the guidance of senior engineers. Participate in testing, commissioning, and startup activities as required. Prepare project documentation, presentations, cost estimates, and engineering deliverables. Attend client meetings, project workshops, and technical reviews. Support project managers in maintaining schedules, budgets, and quality standards. Continue professional development through technical training, mentorship, and project experience.
Bachelor's degree in: Electrical Engineering Electrical Engineering Technology Systems Engineering Transportation Engineering Or a related engineering discipline 0–3 years of electrical engineering experience. Internship, co‑op, research, or project experience related to electrical systems, transportation infrastructure, power systems, transit, rail, or facilities engineering. Understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles and design practices. Familiarity with engineering calculations and technical documentation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites and client locations.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward obtaining EIT/FE credentials. Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or other engineering design platforms. Familiarity with electrical analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar tools. Exposure to transportation, transit, rail, airport, roadway, tunnel, or industrial infrastructure projects. Knowledge of applicable industry standards including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, AREMA, or related codes and practices. Experience through internships or academic projects involving: Power distribution systems Lighting design Transit systems Rail infrastructure Communications systems Control systems.
