Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer to support the Transportation Systems Management and Operations team in Lisle, Illinois. You will contribute to roadway electrical, tolling, ITS, and communications projects while gaining experience in planning, inspections, operations, design support, and project delivery.

The role emphasizes field work, asset inventories, reporting, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to advance transportation technology infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain EIT preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Capacity to handle multiple tasks with minimal direction.
• Ability to perform field work and site visits in the Illinois Tollway system.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Support roadway electrical, tolling, ITS, fiber comms initiatives for the Tollway.
• Participate in field inspections and asset inventory activities.
• Maintain inventories and inspection records for transportation tech assets.
• Prepare technical reports, memos, and engineering recommendations.
• Support planning, operations, and maintenance of transportation tech infra.
• Assist with construction walkthroughs and system handover reviews.
• Analyze data to identify trends and inform engineering decisions.
• Review plans and submittals under senior engineers guidance.
• Assist evaluating assets and opportunities for tech enhancements.
• Coordinate with Tollway staff, consultants, and project teams.
