Job summary

Hiredbuddy is seeking a motivated Junior Database Administrator to join our remote team. You’ll assist in managing and maintaining our database systems, ensuring performance, security, and availability.

Ideal for entry-level candidates with foundational SQL knowledge and a passion for data management. In this role, you will work with senior DBAs to install, configure, monitor, backup, and recover databases, write SQL queries, and help with deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 0-2 years of experience in database administration or a related IT role.
• Fundamental knowledge of relational databases and SQL (SELECT, JOIN, indexing).
• Familiarity with at least one database platform (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar).
• Understanding of basic database concepts such as transactions, normalization, and constraints.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement basic tuning measures.
• Perform routine backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and availability.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and security settings to protect sensitive data.
• Write and optimize SQL queries for reporting and data extraction.
• Troubleshoot database errors and escalate complex issues to senior team members.
• Document database processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to support application deployments.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical database incidents (with training and support).
• Stay updated on database best practices and emerging technologies.
