Job summary

Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer I on the Enterprise Financial Technology team to build cloud-native systems that move money through Chewy's business, connecting commerce, warehouse, procurement, and ERP.

You will work with senior engineers, write clean code, test thoroughly, and learn to apply AI-assisted tooling while adhering to best practices in software design and secure development. No prior finance background required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 1–2 years of experience developing software using Java.
• Experience building applications on AWS or another major cloud platform.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with Git and modern software development workflows.
• Curiosity about AI-assisted software development and an eagerness to incorporate AI tools responsibly throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Attention to detail and a willingness to verify your own work in an environment where errors carry material business impact.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-native applications and services supporting Chewy's enterprise financial systems.
• Build APIs, event-driven integrations, and batch data pipelines connecting commerce, warehouse, procurement, marketplace, and ERP platforms.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and finance and accounting stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable software solutions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software design, implementation, testing, documentation, and debugging while applying sound engineering judgment and code quality standards.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following established software engineering and secure development practices.
• Write SQL to investigate defects, validate the results of your work, and support financial reconciliation activities.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, sprint planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the services you contribute to in production, and learn monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational excellence practices.
• Learn modern software architecture patterns, cloud technologies, and the financial processes these systems support while contributing to production software.
