Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to join our Environmental Services Global Practice in the Mid-Atlantic Region. You will support a wide range of civil and environmental designs, including site civil design, hydraulic analyses, stormwater management, and construction documentation.

The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree, internship/related consulting experience, strong communication, and CAD tool proficiency.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic computer skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD) and civil analysis programs.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists engineering teams to deliver well-coordinated, high-quality designs for civil or environmental engineering projects.
• Assists with coordinating, executing, and monitoring multidisciplinary projects with varying technical complexity.
• Assists in preparing documentation for design projects, including design criteria, technical letters, reports, drawings, and cost estimates.
• Assists with researching and compiling project data and studies.
• Assists with updating drawings in CAD software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for civil and environmental designs.
• Establishing client relations and involvement with marketing, contractual, management, and design meetings.
• Follows QA/QC procedures.
• Conducts internal personnel training.
• All other duties as assigned.
