Job summary

Newell Brands is seeking an Associate Automation Engineer to help develop, maintain, and deploy engineering standards, playbooks, and templates across our manufacturing and distribution network. This early-career role offers exposure to ERA leaders and cross-functional teams to translate standards into practical tools.

The ideal candidate has 1-2 years in manufacturing engineering, internships, and strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline is required.
• 1-2 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, product/process development, plant engineering, automation, or related technical work preferred.
• Internships/co-ops/capstone experiences are strongly preferred.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, drawings, equipment specs, process flow, continuous improvement, and documentation.
• Familiarity with CAD, DFM, Lean, Six Sigma, FMEA/PFMEA, PM tools, or technical writing preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and SharePoint; Power BI or Smartsheet exposure preferred.
• Ability to work across functions, sites, regions, and vendors with guidance from senior engineering leaders.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to manufacturing and distribution sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating, updating, and organizing engineering standards, guidelines, templates, and site-facing documentation.
• Support ERA standards library with clear structure, version control, and reference materials.
• Capture lessons learned from pilot projects and site deployments into reusable guidance.
• Help prepare technical playbooks, checklists, and training materials for consistency across sites.
• Work with SMEs to ensure standards reflect operating needs, safety, maintainability, and manufacturability.
• Support engineering reviews for capital projects, equipment changes, DFM pilots, automation initiatives, and site improvement.
• Assist with DFM tools/workflows including manufacturability assessments and documentation.
• Gather project data, organize inputs, prepare status updates, and track actions to completion.
• Review drawings, specs, vendor info, and docs with guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site assessments and cross-functional reviews for standards-based execution.
• Support knowledge-management initiatives by organizing standards, guides, and lessons learned.
• Create training materials and quick-reference guides for site teams.
• Maintain trackers and dashboards using Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Power BI, or similar tools.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of ERA documentation and processes.
