Job summary

Mortar Group in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Junior Architect to join our design team and assist with architectural design, coordination, and delivery of residential development projects.

The role offers hands-on involvement across planning, design, and construction phases, reporting to the senior team. Candidates should have 2–5 years of professional experience and proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and the Adobe MS Suite. A collaborative, fast-paced environment is valued.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing consultants, vendors, and contractors to see projects through to completion.
  • Conduct design and zoning feasibility studies.
  • Create design documents and filing sets for DOB submissions.
  • Manage approval processes for select projects.
  • Provide construction administration including site visits and RFIs.

The Opportunity:

Mortar Group is seeking an Junior Architect looking with experience in architecture to join our team to assist with the design, coordination, and delivery of our residential development projects. The role is tailored to the needs of each project and its phase. A good fit for this position will be an optimistic and motivated individual who is eager to take ownership of their work. We are a small team and we value collaboration, communication, and the ability to thrive within a fast-paced environment. A desire to be heavily involved with all aspects of planning, design, and construction is required.

Your Role:

Your work will involve all aspects of the architectural design process, from feasibility studies through construction administration. You will report to Mortar’s senior team and work closely with other members of the architecture and development teams.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in managing and coordinating consultants, vendors, and contractors to see a project through to completion
  • Design and Zoning feasibility studies
  • Creation of design documents and DOB filing sets
  • Management of the approval process for select projects
  • Construction administration including onsite job management, troubleshooting and responding to RFIs and submittals
Who We’re Looking For:
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in an architecture, development and/or related practices
  • Experience with project scheduling and coordination with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Advanced graphic, communication, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with the NYC Building Code, Zoning Regulations, and Energy Analysis
  • Experience coordinating and working with consulting engineers
  • Understanding of building envelope, waterproofing, and MEP systems
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)
  • A proactive, self-disciplined and confident attitude, at ease in a fast-paced working environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues, consultants, and construction managers
  • Detail-oriented, accurate and hands-on approaches to projects
  • Construction Administration experience
