Job summary

Axos Bank is seeking a Junior Forward Deployed Engineer to help rapidly ship working software that solves real operational problems. You’ll work with senior engineers, sit with stakeholders to understand workflows, and help build automations, internal tools, and integrations that speed and safeguard processes.

This entry-level role covers Retool, n8n, SQL, C#, and AI/LLM-assisted steps, with opportunities to learn and contribute across case management, data movement, and system integrations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/IS or equivalent, 0–2+ years in software development or data engineering (internships count)

Responsibilities

• Sit in stakeholder sessions to map current workflows with seniors to spot automation opportunities.
• Build and maintain internal Retool apps and dashboards (case management, queues, approvals, visibility) under senior guidance.
• Build and support n8n workflows for data movement, notifications, approvals, and system integrations.
• Write and troubleshoot SQL queries and stored procedures against Microsoft SQL Server; assist in designing schemas for new features.
• Assist in building and consuming C# APIs connecting internal tools to core banking and other systems.
• Help implement AI/LLM-assisted steps into workflows with attention to accuracy and failure handling.
• Test, debug, and document workflows and applications; write runbooks and support notes.
• Monitor deployed tools and automations; assist with incident triage.
• Support data validation and reconciliation tasks tied to automated workflows.
• Take feedback from real users and iterate on your solution rather than fixed backlog tickets

About This Job

We're looking for a Junior Forward Deployed Engineer to help rapidly ship working software that solves real operational problems. You'll work alongside senior engineers — sitting with stakeholders to understand a workflow, then helping build the automations, internal tools, and integrations that make it faster and safer.

Responsibilities

• Sit in on stakeholder sessions to help map current-state workflows, with senior engineers, to spot where automation or tooling can remove manual effort or risk
• Build and maintain internal applications and dashboards in Retool — case management, review queues, approvals, operational visibility — under the guidance of senior engineers
• Build and support n8n workflows for data movement, notifications, approvals, and system-to-system integrations
• Write and troubleshoot SQL queries and stored procedures against Microsoft SQL Server, and assist in designing and documenting database schemas for new features
• Assist in building and consuming C# APIs connecting internal tools to core banking and other systems
• Help implement AI/LLM-assisted steps (e.g., classification or extraction) into workflows under senior direction, with attention to accuracy and failure handling
• Test, debug, and document workflows and applications; write clear runbooks and support notes
• Monitor deployed tools and automations, elevate issues, and assist with incident triage
• Support data validation and reconciliation tasks tied to automated workflows
• Take feedback from real users and iterate on your piece of a solution rather than working from a fixed backlog ticket

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience 0–2+ years of professional experience in software development, data engineering, or a related technical field (internships and academic projects count)
• Some exposure to building internal tools/automations with Retool, n8n, or similar (Zapier, Make, Power Automate, Appsmith)
• Foundational SQL skills — queries, joins, basic schema design — ideally in Microsoft SQL Server
• Exposure to or coursework in C# / .NET, or strong proficiency in another OOP language with willingness to ramp up on C#
• Basic understanding of REST APIs and JSON, both consuming and (with support) building them
• Comfortable working directly with non-technical business stakeholders and asking clarifying questions
• Basic scripting ability (Python or JavaScript/TypeScript) for glue code or Retool custom components
