Job summary

Austin Energy seeks an experienced AE Substation Electrician II to join the Substation Construction group at Kramer Lane. You will perform journeyman-level tasks to install, maintain, and repair high‑voltage substation equipment across 69kV–345kV, with on-call and weather-related emergency coverage.

The role requires CDL-A, strong safety knowledge, and the ability to read diagrams and perform advanced testing with DMMs, TTR testers, and breakers.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in a related electric utility field.
• Valid Texas CDL-A license or ability to acquire within 120 days of employment.
• Ability to pass required tests and background checks.
• Experience with substation equipment and high voltage systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment including breakers, transformers, and protective devices.
• Respond to trouble calls and outages, including on-call and after-hours work.
• Inspect substations and maintain maintenance logs.
• Operate aerial equipment and support field crews.
• Test and troubleshoot electrical systems with appropriate instruments.
