Job summary

City of Austin is hiring an Industrial Utility Electrician II for the Austin Watershed Protection division. The role performs journeyman-level repairs and installations from 1000V to 15kV, including motor controls, substation gear, and lighting systems at treatment facilities and remote sites.

Responsibilities include diagnostics, maintenance, record-keeping via CMMS, and coordination with utility providers during outages. On-call and overtime work are expected.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent and journeyman-level electrical experience.
• Experience with 5kV–15kV distribution equipment and motor controls.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and industrial wiring.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on high-voltage equipment (2.5kV–15kV).
• Repair and install electrical distribution equipment, including panels and transformers.
• Maintain lighting systems and perform preventative maintenance according to SOPs.
• Coordinate 15kV switching with utilities during outages or planned work.
• Participate in on-call rotations and overtime as needed.
• Maintain records of maintenance using CMMS and related software.
